Campus Housing

Types of Facilities

The University of Pittsburgh at Johnstown offers a variety of housing styles—from residence halls to apartments. All rooms and apartments are furnished, including extra-long twin beds. Additionally, all rooms and apartments are wired for Internet, telephone, and cable television services at no additional cost. The apartments and townhouses are equipped with kitchen appliances (except a microwave). All other rooms have a "multipliance," which is a refrigerator, freezer, and microwave all in one unit.

Residence Halls

  • Hemlock Hall
  • Hickory Hall
  • Laurel Hall
  • Maple Hall
  • Oak Hall
  • Willow Hall

The residence halls house first-year students in suites; two bedrooms share a bathroom. (There are no community bathrooms at Pitt-Johnstown.)

Each residence hall accommodates from 120 to 190 first-year students and features an impressive lobby with a fireplace, as well as recreation/exercise and laundry rooms.

North and South Lodges

  • Briar Lodge
  • Buckhorn Lodge
  • Foxfire Lodge
  • Hawthorn Lodge
  • Heather Lodge
  • Larkspur Lodge
  • Sunset Lodge

The lodges are subdivided into discrete cottages, housing from as few as 9 students to as many as 32. Each cottage is a mini-community unto itself. Cottages feature suite-style living with at least one furnished common/lobby area for residents to share. Each cottage houses a student group with a common interest (fraternity, sorority, club, etc.) or just a group of friends.

Townhouse Apartments

  • Cascade Manor
  • Highland Manor
  • Summit Manor
  • Timberline Manor
  • Wilderness Manor
  • Woodland Manor

The townhouses are most appealing to seniors because of the degree of independence offered by this living option. The townhouses feature a living room, kitchen, and powder room downstairs and two bedrooms and a full bath upstairs. Because the townhouses are equipped with a full kitchen (excluding a microwave), students are not required to have a meal plan.

College Park Apartments

The garden-style apartments of College Park are typically sought by students looking for a unique environment close to, but not surrounded by, the campus. The College Park Apartments vary in size (studio, one bedroom, and two bedroom) and in the number of occupants they house (one, two, three, or four). Students housed in College Park Apartments are not required to have a meal plan.

The Living/Learning Center (LLC)

The Living/Learning Center is a state-of-the-art residence hall/hotel/conference center featuring a 400-bed residence facility and an adjoining classroom building. All rooms of this beautiful upper-division residence have private bathrooms. The facility houses a recreation room, an exercise room, and a sauna. The LLC also houses the Varsity Café—a full-service dining facility.

Office of Housing and Residence Life

The Office of Housing and Residence Life manages housing contracts and assignments. In addition, residence life supports all aspects of campus living—from programming to discipline. The office employs seven professionals, one graduate assistant, and 38 paraprofessional staff members—resident assistants and residence directors. The highly trained and carefully selected paraprofessional staff members live and work within the residence facilities, as do four professional area coordinators and the graduate assistant.

Roommate Selection

Incoming first-year students are asked to complete a one-page survey prior to the beginning of the term that evaluates their study habits, interests, and personal living preferences. Using the information from the form, students are then matched with peers who indicated similar lifestyles. Students may also mutually request to be assigned together in a room.

Upper-division residents may choose their own roommates and may request specific housing assignments provided they follow the housing recontracting procedures publicized each spring term.

Auxiliary Services for Students

Food Service

Pitt-Johnstown offers nine meal plans, which vary from 19 meals per week to 25 meals per term. Students may also purchase meal plan points that can be used as cash in any of the campus’ five unique dining facilities: the Student Union Cafeteria, the Varsity Café (in the Living/Learning Center), the Tuck Shop (a small fast food outlet), and Chasers and the Mountain Cat Club. Pitt-Johnstown Food Services offers 19 meals a week and can accommodate most special dietary needs. Box lunches are available to those students who will be off campus during regular meal times (e.g., student teachers).

Laundry Service

There are 13 separate laundry room locations in the residence facilities. Each facility has washers and dryers that can be coin or Pitt-Johnstown debit card operated.

Mail Service

The full-service mailroom is next to the Bookstore in the Student Union. All students, including commuters and residents, are assigned a key-accessible mailbox next to the mailroom for their entire enrollment at Pitt-Johnstown.
