Admission of International Students

     Applications from international students whose credentials meet the requirements and standards of the School of Health and Rehabilitation Sciences and the Office of International Services (OIS) are welcomed.
     Students whose credentials do not meet the minimum prerequisites necessary for application to programs in the School of Health and Rehabilitation Sciences as noted elsewhere in this Bulletin should direct their inquiries concerning application for undergraduate study to the Office of International Services, 708 William Pitt Union, University of Pittsburgh, Pittsburgh, PA 15260.
     Students whose credentials meet educational requirements for application to programs in the School of Health and Rehabilitation Sciences should direct their inquiries for necessary forms and complete application procedures to the Office of Admissions, School of Health and Rehabilitation Sciences, 4020 Forbes Tower, University of Pittsburgh, Pittsburgh, PA 15260, telephone (412) 647-1252.

Application Procedures for International Students

  1. Student completes the application form in English.
  2. A nonrefundable application fee (see Table of Contents, Tuition and Fees) in the form of a check or money order made payable to the University of Pittsburgh is required.
  3. Students interested in the School of Health and Rehabilitation Sciences undergraduate programs must complete the School of Health and Rehabilitation Sciences Application, available from the Office of Admissions, 4024 Forbes Tower, in addition to completing the International Student Application which can be obtained from the Office of International Services, 708 William Pitt Union. All applicants to the undergraduate programs in the School of Health and Rehabilitation Sciences must include: a) an application form, b) one letter of evaluation (two for occupational therapy), c) an experience summary form, d) transcripts from high school and any institutions of higher learning previously attended (college or university), e) TOEFL score if the applicant's native language is not English.
  4. Applicants to the entry-level Master's of Physical Therapy program (MPT) are required to complete an application for SHRS in addition to the International Student Application from the Office of International Services. In addition to completing the admission requirements (see "Admission Requirements for Master of Physical Therapy"), applicants who have attended an institution outside the United States, whether or not a U.S. citizen or resident alien, should arrange with the International Consultants of Delaware, Inc., 109 Barksdale Professional Center, Newark, Delaware 19722, U.S.A., telephone (302) 737-8715, for a "course-by-course" and "grade point average" evaluation of credentials. The evaluation of courses, scores from the Graduate Record Examination (GRE), and TOEFL scores (minimum score of 550 is required), must be received at SHRS by the application deadline, November 30.
  5. Evidence of financial support for the entire anticipated length of study is a requirement that must be satisfied before the student's visa forms can be sent if he or she is accepted for enrollment in the school.
  6. If the student is accepted into the School of Health and Rehabilitation Sciences after completion of all academic and nonacademic requirements, the Office of International Services or the applicant's sponsoring organization will issue an appropriate U.S. Government form permitting the student to apply for a visa for entry into the United States.
  7. Applicants from abroad should read this entire Bulletin carefully in order to avoid any misunderstanding with respect to the University of Pittsburgh's requirements.
  8. To aid in adjustment to the University and the United States, the student from abroad is offered the services of the Office of International Services, 708 William Pitt Union, University of Pittsburgh, Pittsburgh, PA 15260.
  9. Applications should be initiated a minimum of nine to 12 months before the date of intended enrollment, since time taken to evaluate all credentials can be lengthy. Graduate students are admitted twice a year, for the Fall Term (September) and Spring Term (January). (Note: admission to the post-professional program in physical therapy is Fall Term only.)
